Bulu Monkey Fetish Figure, Gabon

The Bulu people form part of the Beti-Pahuin people, who live in rainforest regions of a few nations including Gabon. The Bulu people call the figure ngi, and use it during rituals against sorcery. Ngi is a gorilla, seen as a dangerous animal, with whom candidates identify with after being accepted into the association.
