Salampasu Mask, Congo

 The Salampasu tribe, closely related to the Lulua tribe, are governed by a few chiefs but also have a warriors’ society. Salampasu masks are characterized by their slanting eyes and bulging forehead, sometimes the masks were covered with metal plates, like this one. The masks were used for initiation ceremonies related to the warrior’s society. ​
